Η καρδιά είναι ένα παγκόσμιο σύμβολο της θηλυκότητας, που χρησιμοποιείται συχνά ως έκφραση της ρομαντικής αγάπης. Ο πλήρης συμβολισμός της όμως εξαρτάται από το σχήμα, το στυλ και τα υπόλοιπα σχέδια που τη συνοδεύουν.

Η καρδιά με περγαμηνή ήταν πολύ δημοφιλή σχέδιο σε στρατιώτες στο Β 'Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο.
